A Cincinnati private school teacher sparked national outrage after posting a video expressing disappointment that an assassination attempt on President Trump failed, prompting widespread calls for her termination and credential review.
Teacher’s Shocking Social Media Post
Corinne Baum, identified on LinkedIn as an educator at The Children’s House, a private Montessori-style school in Cincinnati, posted a TikTok video lamenting that President Trump survived an assassination attempt. In the video, Baum referenced creators who suggested a significant event might occur, expressing disappointment when the gunman’s attack failed. The video quickly went viral after being shared by the influential Libs of TikTok account on X.
The Assassination Attempt Details
The incident occurred when 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, charged a security checkpoint, opening fire before Secret Service agents tackled and arrested him. Surveillance footage captured Allen sprinting past metal detectors and exchanging shots with agents. One Secret Service agent was struck but protected by his vest. President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other officials were evacuated safely. Allen, a former teacher who received a Teacher of the Month award in December 2024, wrote in his manifesto that he targeted administration members.
Widespread Backlash and Consequences
Parents, lawmakers, and conservative commentators flooded social media demanding Baum’s immediate termination. Users shared additional TikTok videos showcasing what they described as her extreme political views. The Children’s House website appeared to experience technical difficulties amid the public outcry. Social media users circulated the Ohio Department of Education’s official educator misconduct reporting link. U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro confirmed Allen faces multiple charges, including using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer. Allen’s arraignment was scheduled for Monday.
Mounting Pressure for Accountability
The controversy highlights growing concerns about educators expressing extreme political views on social media platforms. The incident raises questions about professional standards and the responsibilities of teachers who hold positions of influence over children. As of Sunday evening, neither Baum nor The Children’s House had issued public statements addressing the video. The school’s apparent website outage suggested administrators were responding to the escalating situation. The case underscores the intersection of free speech, professional conduct standards, and public accountability in educational settings.
