Among the victims were three of Hayden’s former University of Houston teammates, Zach McMillan and Ralph Oragwu, along with another college teammate whose name has not been released. The crash occurred around 2 a.m., according to Houston Police Assistant Chief Megan Howard.
Two other individuals were injured in the crash, one of them critically. One of the victims was a homeless man, a friend of another homeless man who narrowly escaped being hit. He recounted the terrifying moment, stating that he had a gut feeling to get up and move just before the crash occurred.

Hayden, a first-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2013, had a successful nine-year career in the NFL. After four years with the Raiders, he went on to play for the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Washington Commanders. His last season in the NFL was in 2021.
The accident occurred just days after the 11th anniversary of Hayden’s near-death experience in 2012.
