IDF Prepares for Possible Infiltration and Ground Assault by Hamas and Iran

Amid escalating tensions, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are bolstering their borders with the West Bank to prepare for a potential ground assault orchestrated by Hamas and Iran. This heightened state of alert follows a deadly knife attack in the city of Holon, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals. In response, additional forces have been deployed to various cities to thwart any infiltration attempts​.

The Israeli government is also bracing for a significant aerial attack from Iran. This follows the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, an event that has further strained relations.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has informed G7 allies that an attack involving missiles and drones could commence as early as Monday​​.

In preparation for potential hostilities, Iran has issued flight operation notices advising aircraft to alter their routes, indicating imminent missile and drone launches. Lufthansa, among other airlines, has already decided to avoid Iraqi and Iranian airspace until at least August 7.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, reiterated that Iran is entitled to retaliate within the framework of international law and warned of serious and deterrent measures against any aggression​.

Israel's defense minister, Yoav Gallant, is coordinating with Italian and American counterparts, discussing various defensive and offensive scenarios. Israel's Kan Public Broadcaster reported that there is intense diplomatic effort to ensure a coalition of Arab and Western nations will support Israel in the event of an Iranian attack.

Past attacks in April saw cooperation from the UK, US, France, Qatar, Egypt, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia to thwart threats from Iran, Hezbollah, and Houthi rebels.

On the ground, Israel continues its offensive operations against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Recent IDF airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of key Hamas and Hezbollah figures, which Israel claims were instrumental in orchestrating attacks against Israeli targets. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stern warning, emphasizing Israel’s readiness to confront threats on all fronts and promising severe repercussions for any aggressor​.
